Popular tourist attractions the Biodome and the Insectarium could be shut down indefinitely as the labour dispute continues between the city and its blue-collar workers.

The workers' 5,000-member union submitted a new strike blueprint Tuesday to The Quebec Essential Services Council, which, if approved, would see the two sites shut down in ten days.

A ruling is expected later this week. Officials from the city said if the Essential Services Council rules in favour of the workers, there is not much it can do to keep the Biodome and Insectarium open.

The union is asking for a 9.5 per cent pay increase over four years. The city has offered no raise in the first year and a two per cent hike each subsequent year.

Workers are also asking the city to cut back on subcontracting of services to the private sector.

The union has been without a contract for more than two years.

Earlier this month, it completed a 40-day series of rotating strikes.
