Mayor Gerald Tremblay had some tough words for Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough mayor Real Menard Friday, who has publicly supported striking blue-collar workers.

The workers, who are on their fifth day of a 40-day strike and targeting a different borough every day, were late to salt roads in the Hochelaga Maisonneuve borough Thursday.

The job is considered an essential service, said Tremblay.

"Instead of looking after the citizens of his borough, he decided to have a press conference to support he blue collar workers instead of demanding them to do their jobs. They had a responsibility. He didn't address that to the blue-collar workers," said Tremblay.

The workers have been without a contract for two and a half years. The rotating strike is set to end March 5.
