100 firefighters rushed to Nuns' Island Tuesday for a four-alarm fire in a three-storey building.

The fire broke out on the top floor of a residential building on Elgar St. with 36 apartments.

Forty trucks and 100 firefighters were at the scene at the height of the fire, as 27 apartments were evacuated.

It took less than two hours to extinguish the flames.

There are reports the fire began in a kitchen as someone was using a french fry machine.

Two people were reportedly transported to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
