MONTREAL - Drivers commuting to and from the South Shore have a reason to be scared as we approach Halloween: half of the Mercier bridge will be closed for the final two weekends of October.

Major work will be conducted on the span from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, limiting traffic to one lane in each direction, and those lanes will be narrower than normal.

If the weather is poor construction work might be delayed; it has already been postponed once this month.

Transport Quebec is asking drivers to take the Champlain, Victoria or Jacques Cartier bridges instead.
