A crater-sized hole on the Mercier Bridge heading to Montreal was repaired Friday night by emergency crews.

The two-metre by 70-centimetre hole created a startling view of the St. Lawrence River below, and closed traffic on the inbound left-hand lane.

For the next two weekends, the southbound side of the Mercier will be completely closed to traffic. Crews will repair the deck and reinforce part of the steel structure of the bridge.
