Bash planned in Old Montreal for New Year’s Eve under the stars and snow
MONTREAL—In the spirit of Times Square in New York City, Montreal’s Old Port will be transformed just in times for New Year’s Eve for a big bash with live music, fireworks and skating.
The Old Port Corporation is hoping for a big bash and they say everyone is invited to the free show under the stars and perhaps a few snowflakes.
A large stage will be erected in Place Jacques-Cartier and a DJ will be live all night. At the stroke of midnight a 15 minute firework show will light up the sky and restaurants will remain open until 2 a.m.
“We will be running and dancing with a live DJ on the set,” said David Jobin, the director of programming for the Old Port. “The stage itself will be installed in the middle of the promenade. Several thousand people can gather and dance to Top 40 music.”
Le Grande Bal has been held at the Old Port for years, attracting as many as 40,000—a number that organizers hope will swell with the new offerings.
People advised to dress warm and they are asked to use public transit, the Montreal metro will run into the morning hours.
