A punchless Laval Rouge et Or won their 11th-straight Dunsmore Cup for Universite Laval Saturday by edging out the Universite de Montreal Carabins 14-11.

The Rouge et Or won on the strength of their defence, as the offence failed to score a touchdown, racking up their points through two Boris Bede field goals and four safeties.

The game’s only touchdown was scored by Manuel Crisi-Lauzon on a 10-yard run in the first quarter which gave the Carabins a 7-3 lead. They also scored a single point on a missed field goal by Félix Ménard–Brière and later scored three on his 36-yard field goal.

The Carabins had two possessions late in the game but were unable to pull the trigger on a comeback.

The Quebec City-based Rouge et Or were one of three Canadian university teams, along with Western and Calgary, to go undefeated in the regular season, going 8-0 and ceding a Canadian-best 92 points.

Since the Dunsmore Cup was first handed out in 1980, the Universite Laval club has won a dozen times, while Bishop's has won four times, McGill three, Concordia two, with Queen's, Ottawa and Carleton dividing up the rest.

The Rouge et Or now go on to play the Mounties at Mount Allison University in the final of the Uteck Cup next Saturday. The Mounties defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 20-17 in the final of the Atlantic Association.

In final Mitchell Cup, the University of Western Mustangs will face the University of Calgary Dinos.
