Four men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Gaetan Gosselin, the right-hand man of organized crime figure Raynald Desjardins.

Gosselin, 69, was shot in the upper body as he exited his car near his home on Jean-Tavernier St.in the Mercier neighbourhood on Jan. 22.

Two men were initially arrested, then soon released, after the homicide.

On Wednesday, police confirmed the arrests of Edrick Antoine, 34, Olivier Guay, 30, Stanley Minuty, 29, and Kevin Tate, 29.

"We're talking about people from street gangs working for the Mafia," explained Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere. "People always thought it was a confrontation and now we can see that people work for the same goal, which is money. This morning we arrested four suspected street gang members but we believe they have been working for the Mafia."

Police say they continue to search for witnesses that may have seen a dark blue 2002 Chrysler Caravan and a beige or gold 2000 Mazda Protégé with the suspects in it.

Gosselin is the former brother-in-law and associate of Raynald Desjardins, linked to the Montreal Mafia and accused of the murder of Salvatore Montagna. Police would not confirm those reports.

Anyone with information on Gosselin's death is asked to make an anonymous and confidential call to Info-Crime at 514-393-1133.

"The Montreal police, the SPVM, is still putting a lot of pressure on organized crime," said Lafreniere. "This is not over. I'm telling you, this is not over. There will be other people arrested."

Gosselin’s death was the fifth murder of 2013.
