Two people remain in police custody Wednesday in connection with the shooting of a man in his 60s.
The murder happened in Mercier-Hochelaga Maisonneuve just after 6 p.m. as the victim stepped out of his car on Jean-Tavernier St., near Pierre Gaulin St.
As of noon on Wednesday, police investigators had yet to speak to the two men in custody. They arrested the pair soon after the shooting after getting an anonymous tip that led officers to an apartment on Brunet Ave.
Police will not confirm the victim's identity but La Presse reports he is is Gaetan Gosselin, a man with ties to suspected mafia boss Raynald Desjardins.
Analysts say Desjardins once had ties to the Rizzuto clan, but tried to gain control of organized crime in Montreal.
Desjardins is currently accused of the murder of Salvatore Montagna who was a boss with the Bonnano family.
Crime reporter Daniel Renaud said Gosselin was Desjardin's right hand man.
"The symbol is important.Gaetan Gosselin was the guy who took care of the members of the family of Raynald Desjardins so what happened yesterday is a direct attack against Raynald Desjardins," said Renaud.
This is the fifth homicide in Montreal this year.
