One man is dead after a young driver tried to pass other cars on Route 116 in Warwick.

Around 10:15 p.m. Thursday the impatient driver crossed over a double-line on Route 116 in an attempt to pass several cars.

He ended up ramming a car heading in the opposite direction.

The 18-year-old driver who tried to pass is in hospital in critical condition. His 18-year-old male passenger did not survive the crash.

The occupants of the car that was hit, both 25, were badly hurt but are expected to survive.

Should the younger driver survive police are recommending he be charged with dangerous driving causing death, drug possession and breaking his bail conditions.

Warwick is about 150 km northeast of Montreal.
