Men accused of producing, possessing, and/or distributing child pornography appeared in court Tuesday in an attempt to be granted bail.

Police arrested 13 men last week, mostly Montreal residents, and they were arraigned on a litany of charges related to child pornography.

A 14th suspect, Richard Levesque, was arrested on the weekend.

Most of the accused appeared in court to request bail, and many will be back in court on Thursday because the Crown has asked for further verification.

The Crown wants to verify that the accused do not live near schools, and to ensure other guarantees of good behaviour.

One of the accused, Vincent Rodrigue, declined to ask for bail and so will remain in custody. He was already incarcerated for another matter.

All face between two and 11 accusations on charges such as possession of child pornography, distributing child pornography, creating child pornography, or inciting people to commit a sexual act.

According to officers the men were part of an online forum that discussed how to meet and sexually exploit children.

Two of those men turned out to be connected to scouting groups, one of them was also an elementary school teacher, and a third man was an assistant professor at HEC.
