Canada's Alexandre Despatie led the semifinals of the men's three-metre springboard at the world championships, while American Troy Dumais slipped to third after pacing the preliminaries.

Despatie, from Laval, Que., finished with 485.05 points Wednesday to beat out China's He Chong at 483.30. Dumais was next at 471.50, followed by China's other diver, Zhang Xinhua, with 471.00.

The top 12 advanced to Thursday's final.

Canadian Alexandre Despatie was second to American Troy Dumais in the preliminaries of the men's three-metre springboard diving at the world championships.

Dumais finished with 483.65 points, ahead of Despatie from Laval, Que., at 483.55. China's two divers, He Chong and Zhang Xinhua, were third and fourth.

The semifinals will be held on Wednesday, with the finals set for Thursday.
