Friday was day six at the Montreal Alouettes' training camp in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu -- the veterans call it the dog days.

A number of guys are back for another kick at the can.

One of then is veteran slotback Ben Cahoon, who got a day off from Head Coach Marc Trestman.

Cahoon wasn't complaining.

"It's a grind," Cahoon admitted to CTV Sports reporter Randy Tieman.

Cahoon is back for his 12th year with the team and he's 95 per cent sure it will be his last.

"I had a great time," said the Alberta-raised Cahoon, 36.

No complaints from Calvillo

One guy who appreciates Cahoon is veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo, who says there was an obvious connection with Cahoon right from the start.

Trestman says Cahoon is the epitmome of a pro: he's a guy who's reliable over the long term and can be compared with undersized NFL greats like receiver Steve Largent and kickoff defender Steve Tasker.

Cahoon is 5'9" and 184 pounds.

The numbers

The numbers say it all - Cahoon had 107 catches for 1,231 yards and seven touchdowns last year at an age when most athletes are either retired or on the downside of their careers.

Cahoon has recorded 861 catches for 11,555 yards and 61 touchdowns during his career.
