A former West Island vice-principal was sentenced Thursday morning on child pornography charges.

David Wadsworth, 54, received a 40-month prison sentence -- minus the 12 months he has already served -- after pleading guilty to possession, distribution and production of child porn.

He has also been declared a long-term offender, which means that when he is released from jail he will still be supervised for a period of 10 years.

Wadsworth, who worked at John Rennie High School in Pointe Claire, was first arrested for possession of child pornography in 1999.

In 2000, he was sentenced to five years in jail for molesting a number of his former students while he had been a teacher between the 1970s and 1980s.

He was arrested again in 2007 in connection with an international pornography ring.

Last year, while he was awaiting his sentence for the latest charges, a prison guard found a nine-page letter he had written describing a sexual fantasy involving a young boy.

Based on the letter, experts concluded there was a high risk that Wadsworth would reoffend, and should be monitored closely once he is released from jail.
