Police are investigating a Tuesday afternoon shooting in Riviere-des-Prairies of a man linked to street gangs.

The 23-year-old man was inside a vehicle when he was shot in the upper body just before 4 p.m.

The incident occurred on 57th Ave. and 4th St., but he managed to flee his attacker in the car, ending up at a gas station on Maurice-Duplessis Blvd., where emergency services were called.

Police closed a portion of the busy boulevard in both directions to conduct their investigation.

The victim is in critical but stable condition in hospital, said Daniel Lacoursiere of the Montreal police.

Lacoursiere said the man is known to police for being linked to east-end street gangs.
