Police have identified a male body pulled from the Lachine Canal Wednesday morning as a 17-year-old St. Henri resident who recently went missing.
Yong Xin Zhang’s disappearance was reported Sunday. He was with his mother near the Notre Dame Basilica around 8 p.m. when she lost sight of him. He hadn’t been seen since.
The police had said the case was unusual because the teen was not known to get in trouble or for hang out with a bad crowd, and there was no family conflict before the disappearance.
His body had no signs of violence on it when it was found, police say, but have not given further details about how his body wound up in the canal.
