A 17-year-old boy accused of the second-degree murder of 17-year-old Darius Brown is facing new charges.

The teen appeared in court Thursday for what was scheduled to be a bail hearing, but instead Crown prosecutor Yannick Massicotte laid new charges "regarding possesion of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and breach of probation."

Because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the accused cannot be named, and the name of the victim can only be published with parental consent.

The incident took place one week ago in what police first said was the attempted robbery of a 19-year-old woman on Westover Rd. in Cote-Saint-Luc.

Police initially said Darius fell and hit his head, leading to his death in hospital, but later on police said they believed another 17-year-old boy was responsible for the death.

Massicotte has declared he will seek an adult sentence should the youth be convicted.

"The youth is very close to being an adult and we're sensing right now that a sentence as an adult would be more appropriate for that situation," said Massicotte.

The families of the suspect and the victim were in court for Thursday's hearing.

The suspect's lawyer said his client feels extreme regret for Darius's death.

"My client is not feeling great right now. He feels bad about what happened, very bad about what happened," said Andrew Barbacki.

The bail hearing has been postponed for one week.
