MONTREAL - Formula One leader Sebastian Vettel has won the pole position for a third straight year at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Vettel powered his Red Bull to the quickest lap at the 4.361-kilometre Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in a relatively slow one minute 22.318 seconds in wet, chilly conditions on Saturday afternoon.
Defending race champion Lewis Hamilton was second for Mercedes at 1:23.801 with a surprise third-place result from Valtteri Bottas of Williams at 1:23.446.
Nico Rosberg's string of pole positions ended at three as he came in fourth, followed by Mark Webber for Red Bull and Fernando Alonso for Ferrari.
It was a good day for the Toro Rossi team, as Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciado came in seventh and 10th respectively.
Lap times were slowed considerably by the weather. Vettel won the pole last year in 1:13.784.
