The Surete du Quebec has recovered two rare violins stolen 16 years ago, one of which is believed to be a Stradivarius made in 1685.

It and another violin were stolen from car in 1998 from a Montreal violinist.

Police received a tip about the theft earlier this year and that tip led them to a home on Henri-Julien.

A 50-year-old man was arrested last week but no charges have been laid yet.

Police say the violins were found in their original case in the condition they were in when they were stolen 16 years ago.
