Police say they have recovered the body of a Laval man who went missing last weekend.

The 38-year-old man fell from a fishing boat early Saturday morning in Lac Saint-Louis near Chateauguay.

His body was found in the lake.

Previous details:

The man fell at around 3:30 a.m. while accompanied by three other men. They had left the Pointe Claire Marina at around 11 p.m. on Friday night.

According to provincial police, two of the man's companions tried to rescue him but failed. They were hospitalized with hypothermia, while the third was treated for nervous shock.

"Their lives are not in danger and we are starting to meet with them to try and understand what happened, exactly," said Surete du Quebec spokesperson Claude Denis.

The cause of the man’s fall is unknown and it’s unclear if alcohol played a role. A beer can, life jacket and fishing rods were found onboard the vessel.

According to an SQ spokesperson, the water is around 18 degrees Celsius, and it is possible for someone to survive as long as 12 hours at that temperature.

Fisherman Bruce Gammon is in the nearby waters regularly and he said the winds have not been ideal for a few days.

"With the current heading east, it makes for pretty rough conditions," he said. "When the boat starts going one way and the current starts pulling you the other way, it's hard to get back."
