Canadiens' hopeful Michael McCarron, 19, is moving closer to Montreal – literally – as the 2013 first round pick will be moving 240 km east to play for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL.
McCarron, a 6’6” 225 lb giant from Macomb Michigan, was traded from the London Knights to the Oshawa Generals Thursday along with Dakota Mermis in exchange for Cliff Pu, Josh Sterk and two draft picks.
McCarron was in his second year with the London Knights, owned and coached by former longtime NHL player Dale Hunter.
After a disappointing rookie campaign, McCarron has an impressive 21 goals and 19 assists in 25 games this season, including a recent six point effort against Sarnia.
In spite of the gaudy numbers McCarron was not chosen for the U.S. squad for the World Junior Championship tournament.
The Oshawa Generals have the best record in the OHL at 27-5-1.
