A French comic convicted of multiple hate-speech violations in Europe landed in Canada on Tuesday but was not permitted to enter the country.

Diedonné M'bala M'Bala said on his Facebook page that he had to do a "there and back" but would attempt to re-enter Canada on Wednesday.

Dieudonné is scheduled to perform a string of shows in Montreal and elsewhere in Quebec over the next month, but Wednesday's show has been cancelled.

The owner of the hall where Dieudonné is scheduled to perform in Montreal told reporters that Dieudonné's team had told him they would refund those holding tickets for Wednesday's performance.

However, Dieudonné tweeted on Wednesday morning that he would, in some fashion, perform for Montrealers.

The comic was sentenced on Tuesday for the latest in a string of hate speech convictions, and ordered to pay a 10,000 Euro fine and given a two-month suspended sentence.
