Montreal police have found the body of a taxi driver who went missing in December.

The body of Si Belkacem Silakhal was located in the St. Lawrence River in May, one of several bodies found in the water that month.

Montreal police said it took a long time to identify the body, and then to notify his family of the death.

Police do not believe that Silakhal was killed.

The taxi driver was last seen on Dec. 21, 2015, driving his taxi in downtown Montreal.

His wife spoke to him around 5:30 p.m. that day, but he never returned home.

His abandoned taxi was found one week later parked near the Lachine Canal, but a search of the Peel Basin turned up no sign of the missing man.

His family spent weeks putting up posters around the Lachine Canal, and handing out flyers in the Old Port, to no avail.

Police said there is no sign of any criminal intent in Silakhal's death.
