Montreal police say the van a missing taxi driver was driving has been found downtown.

Si Belkacem Silakhal, 52, was last seen around 6 p.m. Dec. 21 in downtown Montreal, driving an adapted black 2012 Dodge Caravan minivan with licence plate T11310F and taxi number 1482. His wife Florida said she spoke to him around 5:30 p.m. but hasn't heard from him since.

A citizen spotted the van and called 911 Monday afternoon. Police say he was not in the van and there were no traces of violence inside the van, nor is there any proof a crime has been committed.

“If he’s going to work late, he contacts us to let us know. He’s never gone 10 hours without telling us where he is or what he’s doing,” said his daughter Thanina Silakhal.

The family is especially worried because Silakhal has diabetes and high blood pressure and they don't know if he has his medication on him.

Police have been investigating but say they have had difficulty as no bank or credit card transactions have been made since his disappearance.

Silakhal has greying hair, brown eyes and weighs 85 kilograms (187 lbs).

Police are now trying to determine how long the van has been sitting where it was found. Anyone with information on Silakhal’s disappearance is asked to call 911 or contact the family via this Facebook page.
