The Agropur plant in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville in Monteregie will close in May 2016, the company announced on Tuesday.

A reorganization of the company's fluid milk processing activities is involved, Senior VP of Communications Dominique Benoit said in a statement.

Benoit said a reason for the closure was the high cost of renovating the plant, citing the "age and condition of the building and equipment at the Saint-Bruno plant."

The 67 permanent employees and 27 temporary employees working at the plan will be affected, with some having access to severance benefits and the Employee and Family Assistance Program and others being welcome to apply for the equivalent positions at other facilities.

The plant closure was up for discussion for a long time, accordingSaint-Bruno-de-Montarville Mayor Martin Murray.
