MONTREAL - The day after the arrest of three suspected arsonists, somebody else tried to burn down a café in Riviere-des-Prairies.

Police rushed to the two-storey building on Maurice Duplessis Blvd. near 5th Ave. after a burglar alarm rang at 3:40 Tuesday morning.

The first officers on the scene noticed the front window had been smashed and a Molotov cocktail had been tossed inside.

The flammable liquid did not catch fire, so the extent of the damage was limited to the broken window.

Police have not been able to make any arrests yet, and are trying to find witnesses who may have seen who tried to burn down the café.

In the past week, three pizzerias and a cheese importing business have all been torched by criminals.

Two pizza restaurants just a few blocks apart on Charleroi St. were attacked with firebombs on Wednesday.

The next evening a dairy processing plant in St. Leonard was set ablaze, and damage was so extensive the building had to be demolished because it was unsafe.

Sunday morning, yet another pizza restaurant on Charleroi Street was set on fire.

Since August, 11 Montreal businesses have been the target of arson, mostly Italian cafés and pizzerias.
