Police are investigating after a truck belonging to the president of the FTQ construction wing was set on fire Wednesday night in Le Gardeur, just east of Montreal in the driveway of the union's president Yves Mercure.
A neighbour notices the blaze just after 11 p.m. and called 911. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, after which investigators found a gas can and road flare under the vehicle.
Investigators believe the attack may have been connected to the allegations of corruption within Quebec's construction industry.
Mercure said he is not intimidated by the attack, that he has a job to do and will continue his work.
The FTQ has been through a spate of recent troubles, including fraud charges faced by former president Jocelyn Dupuis after claims he falsified documents, and a police crackdown on threats and intimidation complaints at worksites.
