A former high-ranking union official was arrested Wednesday at the Quebec-U.S. border.

Jocelyn Dupuis, a onetime senior official at the Quebec Federation of Labour's construction wing, was briefly detained at the border crossing at Lacolle and released under a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Dupuis had been sought by authorities on fraud and forgery charges, and a warrant was issued for him on March 10.

He was vacationing in the United States and police were waiting for him to return.

Dupuis faces three charges -- one each of fraud, forging documents, and of counselling another person to commit forgery.

The Crown alleges Dupuis defrauded the construction wing of more than $5,000 between Dec. 2, 2007, and Nov. 11, 2008.
