Parents with children in many of the public daycares in Montreal and Laval will not have to make alternate arrangements Thursday. A planned one-day strike has been called off.

Late Wednesday night the union announced that talks with the employers were advancing, so the decision was made to call off the walkout.

Rotating strikes have been called over the past 10 days. The union's goal has been to try and force the government to step up negotiations.

Workers have been without a contract for 2-years.

Vacation time and working conditions remain sticking points.

Strikes planned for Monday and Tuesday have also been cancelled.
