There are now two baby walruses at the Quebec Aquarium.

The mother, known as Samka, gave birth the evening of May 23, without any assistance.

The infant has already begun nursing and is doing well.

Earlier this month another female walrus, Arnaliaq, gave birth to a healthy walrus cub.

The father in both cases is Boris the walrus, who was brought to Quebec City specifically to get the females pregnant.

Arnaliaq is 12 years old, and Samka is ten.

There are only 30 walruses in captivity worldwide. They can live up to 40 years in the wild.
