Police in the Toronto area say a 73-year-old Quebec man is facing charges in an investigation into sexual assaults alleged to have occurred nearly 50 years ago.

Peel regional police say a 56-year-old man contacted them in May alleging he was the victim of series of sexual assaults that occurred in the early 1970s.

Investigators say Alonzo Levesque of L'Ile-Bizard, Que., was arrested on Monday and charged with four counts of sexual assault.

They say Levesque had been a referee with a hockey league in Toronto in the 1970s and had also been employed as a superintendent of various apartment buildings in Toronto and Brampton, Ont.

Investigators say they believe that there may be more alleged victims.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
