The Parti Quebecois was back on the offensive Thursday, accusing the Liberals of tolerating a marketplace where $167 daycare permits are sold for as much as $500,000.

The Parti Quebecois is alleging that dozens of daycare spots were awarded to people connected to the Quebec Liberal party -- specifically in LaFontaine, the east-end riding of the province's Family Minister, Tony Tomassi.

There are also allegations about daycare licenses being given to individuals that donated to the Liberals, a practice which is illegal.

"The Liberals have turned daycare into a machine to collect contributions," said PQ leader Pauline Marois.

"We have to use the public money to serve the children and to serve the parents, not to serve the Liberal party and the people who give money to the Liberal party," she said.

Meantime, Quebec Solidaire MNA Amir Khadir said his party's researchers have also found many employees of consulting engineering companies have made the maximum contribution to the Liberal party.

Marois said the Liberals have corrupted the system and again called for a sweeping public inquiry into the Liberal party.
