St. Eustache police is investigating a suspicious fire, after a witness saw two suspects throw gas cans in a store just past midnight on Tuesday.

The police arson squad could not confirm the circumstances yet, but did say that firefighters discovered evidence the fire may have been criminally set.

The investigators will begin their work Tuesday morning before the scene is contaminated to reveal the cause of the fire.

A witness alerted firefighters at 12:02 a.m. when he saw flames coming from the Atomik Nutrition store, located at 88 St-Laurent Street in St. Eustache.

Firefighters evacuated the apartments nearby as a security precaution. Residents have since returned to their homes and no one was hurt.

Spokesperson for the St. Eustache police Normand Brulotte said the fire was quickly under control, but the store was severely damaged.
