One of Quebec’s top 10 most wanted has been captured.

Harinder Singh Cheema, 36, is suspected in the 2007 murder of his wife Gurpreet Kaur.

Kaur was found on Dec. 25, 2007 with multiple stab wounds in the apartment on Deguire St. in St. Laurent she shared with him and their two children. Singh Cheema was seen leaving the home in a hurry on the morning of Dec. 24. He then left their two children with a friend, and he has not been seen since. He disappeared before he could be questioned by police.

Police issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for second-degree murder on Jan. 10, 2008.

According to an arrest warrant issued in California, he was tracked down after he provided fingerprints for permanent residency status in the U.S.

Police say he was living in San Francisco under the name Baljit Singh.

Montreal police were warned on June 26 that Singh Cheema could be in the San Francisco area, and confirmed his arrest Wednesday.

He is expected to face charges of second-degree murder.
