Laval's Jennifer Abel grabbed a second-place finish at the Commonwealth Games, but Emelie Heymans's day ended in disaster.

Abel, 19, who at one point was leading the individual 3m springboard competition, picked up the silver medal after scoring a total of 338.55 points.

The gold and bronze medals went to Australians Sharleen Stratton (376.00 points) and Jaele Patrick (326.15) respectively.

Meanwhile Heymans finished in ninth place after a horrible third dive that saw her enter the water flat on her back. Until the flop, Heymans was in fourth place, and hoping to add to her medal count.

Heymans and Abel won gold in the 3m springboard synchronized dive, while Abel picked up gold and Heymans earned the bronze in the 1m springboard.

17-year-old Pamela Ware of Otterburn Park finished in 7th place with 299.05 points.
