MONTREAL - Fire broke out at nine am Saturday morning at 7518 Champlain in LaSalle.

The conflagration emanated from the basement of a two-storey residential building and spread to the first floor.

Firefighters contained the fire in the ground level unit.

Seven individuals were evacuated, five of whom will not be able to return to their home for a few days due to the damages.

One person suffered smoke inhalation and received medical attention.

The home sits on the South side of the city's aqueduct near Senecal, just west of the Douglas Hospital.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages
