ST. LAZARE - A wintery day in December may not seem like the first day of school, but 350 students in St. Lazare will take what they can get.
Birchwood Elementary opened on Wednesday morning more than three months behind schedule.
In August, when it became evident the school would not be finished in time the contractor blamed this summer's weather for construction and promised it would be ready at the end of October.
That deadline came and went, and it was only after the warmest November on record that the school was finally finished.
Since school began on Aug. 31, students have been split amongst four different schools: Forest Hill Jr. and Sr., Pierre Elliott Trudeau, and Westwood Jr.
