MONTREAL - One Quebec school will not be ready for new students at the end of the month.

Construction of the Birchwood Elementary school in St. Lazare was scheduled to wrap up by June 30, but more than a month later the walls are not finished.

However Robert Mills of the Lester B. Pearson school board says the building will be ready in October at the latest.

"From what I understand, the walls are up. I don't think all of the brickwork has been completed," said Mills.

Students will still be able to go to school, just not at Birchwood.

Instead Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Westwood Junior and Forest Hill will handle the overflow on a class-by-class basis.

The possibility also exists that students will move into the school before the building is completely finished.

"I've been told also that several of the classrooms on the second floor have already been completed," said Mills.
