It's back to class on Wednesday for thousands of Lester B. Pearson School Board students, but the bells won't be ringing at Birchwood Elementary
The St. Lazare school remains under construction, and therefore the 350 students will be forced to take classes elsewhere until it is completed.
The contractor blames poor weather for construction delays, which will force the students to be split up and sent to four different schools.
"The kindergarten students will be going to Forest Hill Jr., the grade 1 and 2s will be going to Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School, grade 3 will be going to Forest Hill Sr., and grades 4,5,6 will be at Westwood Jr.," explained Bob Mills, LSBSB's director general.
Parents say they are disappointed by the makeshift situation.
"The kids are going to be shuffled from one school to the next. It's not too good. It needs to be more stable I believe," said mother Natalie Mammitzsh.
Mills said parents should look on the bright said.
"When we take ownership of the building, the kids will have an opportunity to celebrate. This is an incredible situation in Quebec. We have a brand new English elementary school opening in Quebec and I think that's a wonderful development," he said.
Still, students like Amely Fafard, who was eager to start grade four has mixed feelings.
"I was excited, but it's not ready, so now it's like we're sad," she said. "I have to go to another school and with people that I don't really know, so I don't really like it."
