Once-celebrated Quebec author Maxime Roussy was convicted Tuesday of sexual assault, computer luring and other sexual charges against a minor.

Roussy met his victim at a book fair when she was 11 years old.

He then spent years luring the girl online, eventually convincing her to meet him in motel rooms in Montreal and Quebec City.

At that time she was 14.

Three years Roussy was arrested and charged with 11 counts of armed sexual assault and other related crimes.

The story was shocking for his fans -- Roussy was at the time a literary success in Quebec, having sold hundreds of thousands of novels, and frequently drawing large crowds to book-signings.

In 2013 the victim testified against Roussy. She was 19 years old at the time.

However there have been numerous delays in the trial over the past three years, but on Tuesday Roussy was found guilty.

Judge Dominique Joly ordered Roussy be taken immediately into custody while awaiting sentencing.

Roussy faces up to 14 years in prison.

He will be sentenced on Jan. 11, 2017.cult
