MONTREAL—Police have released the names of two people killed during an apparent murder-suicide that took place on Sunday north of Montreal.

The Surete du Quebec answered a call at 26 Notre-Dame Street in L’Epiphanie at 10 a.m. where the body of Anise Rousselle, 35, was discovered inside the house.

Information found led police to Rawdon, 30 kilometers further north, where the body of Francois Neron, 39, was discovered near a public park. Police believe that Neron murdered his girlfriend and mother of their child before taking his own life.

“We are able to link both people together. It’s probably a murder followed by a suicide,” Provincial Police spokesman Benoit Richard said. “Kids are not on the scene and they are OK right now.”

Provincial police would not disclose the details of the phone call, which they say was not made as a result of gun shots being heard. The phone call came from a citizen that was neither the victim nor the suspect.

“We’ll learn more if a weapon was used,” Richard said. “There were no shots heard by anybody.”

Neighbors were shocked by the developments in their neighborhood on Mother’s Day.

Nancy Martel cared for the couple’s 3-year-old child five days a week at her daycare. Although new to the neighborhood, Martel said the family seemed to be settling into the community well. The couple had two other children from previous relationships, with the mother hailing from the Maritimes.

“I’m surprised. I don’t understand. I never noticed anything out of the ordinary. Nothing,” said a visibly upset Martel. “I knew where they lived and when I heard about this I thought it couldn’t be there, it must be another house.”
