A teenaged driver is in custody after crashing a car during a joyride Friday night.
Laval police pulled the car over after it was swerving erratically on the Viau Bridge in Laval. Officers suspected the teen driver may have been under the influence of alcohol.
Soon after he was pulled over, the teen sped away, heading into Montreal. Police gave chase but stopped soon after instead of pursuing the car at high speed.
The driver lost control of the car, barreled through a fence and came to rest in a ditch near the intersection of Henri Bourassa Blvd. and Highway 15. He and the passenger, a teenaged girl, sustained minor injuries.
The driver was arrested and Laval police are planning on charging him with impaired driving.
