Police have made four arrests and are still searching for a fifth suspect in connection with a shooting in Chambly Sunday morning.

Police say the incident began at Le Vieux Bourgogne bistro in Chambly, about 31 kilometres southeast of Montreal, around 3:40 a.m.

Two groups of men, all in their 20s, left the bar and drove to the intersection of de Longueuil St. and Brassard Blvd., also in Chambly.

Once there, they got out of the cars and the fight continued, police say. There were five people involved in total, three men in one car and two in the other.

At least one gun shot was fired. No one was injured in the shooting.

Local police arrived around 4 a.m. They blocked off the area, drew their guns and began searching for the suspects.

Eventually, the Surete du Quebec’s tactical squad was called in.

After a few hours, police arrested three of the men, taking two down on a front lawn.

“The SWAT arrived. The real SWAT with the mask and everything. And at that point they arrest them. They arrest two of them in front of us,” said Jean-Marc Hamelin, a neighbour who witnessed the arrest.

Police then tracked down a fourth man who was hiding in a nearby home. He came out and offered no resistance as he was arrested, said Yannick Parent of the Richelieu St. Laurent police.

The men are all known to police, but Parent declined to say in what capacity.

Police are still searching for the fifth suspect, but Parent says he lives in the area.

“(The shooting) could be related to some drug trafficking. So our investigators are still on the spot to talk to the suspects and find out why that occurred and if there is any relation to any criminal group,” Parent said.

Police seized three cars. They also searched the area with the help of the canine unit and found one bullet casing.

Parent said they will continue searching the perimeter to make sure there aren’t others.

One of the five suspects has been charged with attempted murder, Parent said, and there will likely be more charges.
