Montreal police cordoned off a section of downtown Montreal Thursday at lunch time while they dealt with a suspicious package.

People and vehicles were prevented from entering an area from De Maisonneuve Ave. to Sherbrooke St., and from St. Denis St. to St. Hubert St.

The package itself was on Ontario St. at the north end of the bus terminal.

Around 1 p.m. the bomb squad's robot began to roll toward the package to get a closer look at the time and to disarm it if possible.

An hour and a half later police gave the all-clear, saying the mystery box had been "neutralized" and the area was re-opened to the public.

The arson squad now has the package and is continuing its investigation.
