Skiers at Ski Val Saint-Côme in Lanaudiere arrived at the bottom of the hill Sunday morning to find a fire waiting for them.

The fire began in a condo at the foot of the mountain around 8:30 a.m. and spread to several others before it was put out.

In all, six condos were destroyed by the blaze.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to other units on the hill.

"Everyone was really concerned, everyone was texting each other and talking about it at the chalet and at the mountain. and everyone just stopped at the mountain just watching it because you could see from the mountain what exactly which condos were going up so you could see who was involved," said Kimberley Cameron, a woman who lives in St. Come.

"I think one of the homeowners is in from Vancouver actually and she happens to be here and so she was here to witness it."

Several of the owners told CTV Montreal they had spent much of the holidays at their cottages and that they lost many items, including recently-received Christmas presents, in the fire.

Those owners also told CTV Montreal that they had insurance and would soon begin making claims for their material losses.

Nobody was injured by the fire.
