Animal authorities are hoping that Montrealers respond to an adoption blitz that aims to save the lives of 100 cats.

The city’s SPCAs usually get about 600 new animals per month but that total rises to about 1,600 at this time of year, largely because many people move and don’t bring their pets with them.

The city is offering a $50 discount to anybody who adopts a cat by the end of Sunday.

The spike in new animals actually lasts throughout the warmer months, as one official notes.

“Our moving day period actually starts in May and ends in August so we actually see a huge increase in the number of animals during all of those months,” said Alanna Device of the SPCA.

The public has responded to this latest adoption blitz, swooping up 25 cats Wednesday and another 33 Thursday

Those looking to adopt can head to the SPCA (located at 5215, rue Jean-Talon West, in Montreal) and the SPCA Annexe (located at 7314 Mountain Sights until 8 p.m. Friday or Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
