Quebec CrossFit athlete Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, 25, has been crowned champion of her sport after taklng the World Crossfit Championships in Carson, California Sunday.

Leblanc-Bazinet, in her fifth try at the championships, won comfortably thanks to a series of strong performances throughout the competition.

The CrossFit Brossard team member finished within the top six in eight of the 13 events and only faltered in the Sprint Carry event - coming in 25th - an event which favours athletes larger than the 5'2" 125 lb Sherbrooke resident.

"Can't even believe it yet but this just happened! Fittest on earth! Me omg ... Can't say it yet without starting to laugh omg.." she wrote on Instagram after the victory.

Leblanc-Bazinet, a Chemical Engineering student at the University of Sherbrooke, entered the final day of the competition with a 100 point lead over her closet rival over two-time champion Annie Thorisdottir.

The American Julie Foucher came in third while Quebecer Michele Letendre finished fourth. Rich Froning of the United States won on the mens side, while Quebecer Paul Tremblay came in 31st.
