As convoys of ambulances carrying wounded civilians leave Aleppo, protesters in Montreal are denouncing Russia's contribution to the war.

State TV in Syria showed at least 29 buses waiting to take evacuees to two Shi'ite villages, going through government-controlled territory to a rural, rebel-held part of the province.

The evacuation is part of a ceasefire deal worked out as rebel forces lose control of Aleppo for the first time in four years.

Buses and ambulances were supposed to leave Wednesday, but that was abandoned when fighting continued.

On Thursday, protesters with Amnesty International demonstrated for an hour outside the Russian Consulate in Montreal.

About 100 people gathered at Du Musée Ave. and Dr. Penfield Ave. at 11 a.m. to voice their displeasure.

"Get interested in that situation," said Beatrice Vaugrante. "Don't look away. Please, don't."

She urged people to learn about the civil war in Syria and how the Assad regime is being supported by the Russian government.
