Premier Philippe Couillard said Wednesday that he has not blocked oil and gas exploration on Anticosti Island.

The Premier, speaking from Munich, said the provincial government has fulfilled all its obligations as a financial partner in the project.

Petrolia is taking the provincial government to court, arguing the province has not done what it agreed to do.

In an application for an injunction, Petrolia alleges Couillard ordered provincial employees to stop working on the Anticosti exploration project.

They point to multiple occasions where Couillard spoke out against hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, the technology used to find and exploit deposits of natural gas and oil.

On Tuesday Couillard said he it was "terrible" that the Environment Ministry had approved the use of 30 million litres of water, taken primarily from salmon rivers, for the exploration project.
