Police closed off several streets and set up a large perimeter in the east end Thursday morning as they dealt with what they believed might be an armed and barricaded tenant.

The incident began when police received a call at 7:10 a.m. concerning a dispute between two neighbours in a building on Sherbrooke near Joffre.

One had suffered a hand wound, possibly caused by stabbing, and was taken to hospital.

Once on the scene, officers were told that the alleged offender had a firearm in his home.

Police finally entered the apartment to find that it had been vacated. Investigators planned to get a warrant to search the unit for a weapon.

They lifted the perimeter at 8:45 a.m.
